Basic Fundamentals Of A Wine Label

It used to be that whenever you wanted a glass of wine, you had very few opportunities. These days, you have a wide variety of choices. A $3 generic box of wine is one thing. An costly bottle worth thousands of dollars can also be found. The first task to getting a good bottle of wine is to understand the verbiage on the bottle.

Breaking down a wine label

Every wine label is about the same. There are the same things to them. The grape producer, vintage year, region and alcohol content will all be put on the label for most wines purchased within the United States. The “varietal” suggests what type of grape the wine is made from. Vintage year is the year the wine was made. Vintage wine labels do not always contain all this information, but they could be translated easily with a search engine.

What organic wines are

“Organic” is a word you will see on the label of just about each and every type of wine. Probably the most common organic wines are one of the most common wines of all – red and white. There are three types of organic – if a label just says “organic,” the bottler claims it was grown without chemicals. Occasionally the bottle will say “certified organic” instead. This just means the growing procedures were double checked for the organic status. “USDA certified organic” means the growing meets federal standards.

Movement toward natural wine

Wine that doesn’t have any chemicals in it is called “natural wine.” Only natural yeasts in the air could be used in natural wines. Natural wines go wrong a lot more often, and if you find a good natural wine, you can only count on other bottles from the same batch to taste the same.

Discovering fine wine to have sulfites involved

Marketing terms are found on wine as well. Sometimes, a wine bottle will say “no sulfites.” That means there aren’t any sulfite acids in it at all. Some labels say “no added sulfites” on them. That means that throughout the process, there weren’t any sulfites added to the mixture. There are a few wines with a lot of sulfites in them. These contain white wine, sweet dessert wine and ice wine. Getting the best fine wines is all about finding a wine that you love. It is important to enjoy wine. Find one you like and stick with it when it comes to fine wine experiences.
