Find a native Chinese tutor to help especially if you are unable to travel to China. No matter what program, book or class you chose to learn Chinese with, using a tutor has many more benefits. This person can help you make much faster progress, correcting the many mistakes you will naturally make as you start your study. Your tutor can make suggestions as to materials and assignments to work on between sessions. Ask your Chinese friends for referral to a good tutor.
