With some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches in the world travel to Bali should be on every wondering souls to do list. This small island has much to offer ranging from great diving locations to active volcanoes making this exotic and intriguing place a Mecca for travellers looking for inspiration.

With one quarter of the worlds marine life located within the Indonesian archipelago Bali attracts divers from all over the world. Surfers also make the beaches of Bali one of their many stops as some of the beaches are famous for their surf. Flowers are never far from you when you travel in Bali and the island boasts over a dozen species of coconut tree. Touring the island by car, bike or boat the island will open itself up to you and touch your heart. Numerous temples wait to be explored and the chain of six volcanoes which runs from east to west adds and element of danger to your journey.

Dance is an integral part of the rich Balinese culture and on any given day you can watch one of the many indigenous dances performed by the locals. The Barong Dance which tells the story if the opposing forces of chaos (“Rangda”) and order (the “Barong”). A ceremony or colourful festival is always close at hand like the flower festival where people come form all over Indonesia to compete in the flower tournament and watch the flower parade.

Ceremony is also an important part of the Hindu Balinese culture. Ceremonies are performed for almost everything but some are more holy than other. The cremation of deceased loved ones is a very important ritual and it isn’t unheard of for villages to have mass cremations to lower the massive cost of this ritual.

The island also boasts some interesting wildlife with over 300 species of bird in residence in Bali and an array of deer and civet scattered throughout the lush flora for sightseers to hunt for. Diving is also very popular as dolphins are often seen from the beaches and whale shark frequent the blue waters of the coast.The azure blue waters of Bali are hoe to a plathora of aquatic life to keep divers under for hours.

If nature is not where you choose to immerse yourself then spend the day haggling with shop keepers for locally produced craft, jewellery and pottery in and around Ubud or head to Kartika Discovery Mall where you will find all the international brands you can think of.

Bali is a jewel amongst the 17 000 islands that make up Indonesia. With its rustic and easy going population the islands intricacies and secrets will warm your heart for many years after you have left.
